Reaction Papers
Please compose a 2-3 page
paper in which you respond to the assigned reading.
In your paper, be sure to do
the following:
1. Summarize
briefly what you take to be the main points of the reading
2. Describe
what strikes or interests you in the reading and how you react to it
3. Say
what, if anything, the reading teaches you about the tradition that you didn’t
know
I will evaluate the papers according to
whether they reflect (a) an accurate reading and (b) some serious reflection
about the reading. Because there are so
many papers coming in throughout the class, they are meant to give you a venue
to learn via thinking and writing, not to be a context for extensive critical
feedback from me. This comes with exams. I am, however, always happy to meet with you
to discuss the papers.
Papers will receive either
a 0 (no points), √
(14 points) or √+ (20 points).
The paper should be 2-3 pages long (typed and
stapled), double-spaced with 12 point font and 1” margins.
At the top of your reaction paper, on the same line, put “Reaction Paper
#__. [your
name]. Then begin the paper one double
space below this line.
It should be well written and carefully
checked for spelling and grammatical errors.
Papers less than two full pages will receive no points. Late response
papers will not be accepted.
Please check the syllabus for the policy on emailed assignments and lateness
due to computer failure.
