About the Midterm Exam
The midterm will invite you to draw from your
knowledge of all materials covered thus far in the class – images, map
exercises, readings, lectures, discussions and videos. You will need to be able to do the following:
· Reproduce
the historical timeline, including important figures, geographic and political
changes, and the rise and development of the major forms of religion from 3000
BCE to 200 BCE
· Reproduce
the names of the major genres of religious texts in India and know their structure
and basic content (if we studied it)
· Indicate on
a blank map outline all geographical features and important locations studied
thus far
· Identify and
say something about the significance of images studied in class
· Identify and
say something about the significance of primary religions texts studies in
class and covered in the readings
· Reflect your
understanding of the major concepts from the different traditions and compare
them, using accurate terminology
The midterm will include the following kinds of
questions:
1.
Image
Identification
2.
Mapping
3. Definition: These questions ask you to define the
central terms and related concepts as we studied in class and in the readings.
4. Short Answer Essays:
The questions can cover anything in the course materials and should be
about 5-7 sentences each.
5. Mid-Length Essays: These ask you to develop longer essay
responses to broad and sometimes comparative questions.
