Jungian Analysis

The purpose of this assignment is to enhance your critical understanding of Jung’s theory of archetypes and the collective unconscious, and to apply it in ways that engage religious symbols and narratives. You may choose option 1 or 2. If you choose 2, you must clear your own topic with me on Friday, April 10.

· Option 1: Analyze one of your dreams using Jung’s notions of archetypes (be specific), the collective unconscious and individuation. Amplify the archetypal content of your dream by drawing from at least three sacred myths. Be sure to relate the archetypal significance of the dream to your own life and personality. What, for you, is the particular “wisdom of the dream”?

· Option 2: Write an essay on a specific aspect of Jung’s theory, arguing its pros and cons. In the process, draw on at least one scholarly article on Jung. Materials other than the online academic journals available through the library webpage are not acceptable.

The paper should be no less than five double-spaced pages long with 12 point font.
